Singer Slant manuals & more: )
Been sorting through various Slant manuals in my possession recently & thought it might be good to show some of them here.
Singer Manuals of the period, early 1960s, are very comprehensive & not seen nowadays. The 431 Convertible is 104 pages of real details. The 403 Special is 96 pages. The 411 is 104. Imagine that these days? No chance.
The Singer 411 manual, shown bottom left, is Multi-lingual even. It is pictorial, no text, just diagrams which are clearly understandable by any nationality! Has 66 pages of easily understood info, including an index. From 1963 I believe. Printed in Western Germany... When the Berlin Wall divided Germany.
Lubrication points:
Fancy stitches?
Is that cool, or what? Whatever language you speak?
I think that is very cool. From 60 years ago.
What a shame you can't find similar now?? Online or anywhere.
If you ever come across one of the 411G machines with the Switchable Treadle/Electric options you may have the particular page insert for your Manual. If you haven't here it is. Got to be a rare item?
The machine itself is obviously super rare. Available only to particular Special Order when new.
I'll always remember this machine. Saw it on Ebay listed as an Electric & then realised it had a belt guard! I knew the belt guards themselves are Hens Teeth for a Slant. Only come with treadles obviously, & they are few & far between. The empty fixing screw hole is always visible on the Slant 400 series (excepting the 431G) & many wonder what it is for: )
Amazingly the machine did not sell on the first listing, but I made sure I won it on the second; ) I was still the only bidder. It was during the Covid lock down & I had to wait patiently to collect it from London.
This is the Ebay page just after the end: )
Note the foot controller & the belt guard... The machine is now in Northern California in good hands.
A great find, & a great story?

Just this morning I discovered a very useful, free, online resource for everything sewing related! Manuals, Service Manuals, & much more. https://s-ish.com/ S(inger)-ish dot com. Well worth a look I say!
There is also ManualsLib, which you may be aware of already? Also free & very useful. If you are looking for a particular machine user manual or Service Manual always check these two first before spending money on the many online sellers on Ebay, Etsy etc. Often for poor quality copies/files at high prices.
